When Bean got neutered, we had a bit of scare where he wasn’t eating or pooping so of course our Vet gave us Oxbow Critical Care. After a couple days of syringe feeding Beanie Boy was back to normal but we had so much extra Critical Care that would expire before we would ever need to use it all. My vet suggested I make “meatballs” out of the extra powder, but Bean wouldn’t eat them, so I came up with this really simple treat recipe. Give it a try!
Supplies
- Parchment Paper or wax paper
- Baking sheet
- Rolling pin
- Mixing bowl and spatula
- Cookie cutter or knife
Ingredients
- 1 banana
- ¼ cup of minced carrots
- ½ cup of Critical Care (If you don’t have access to Critical Care, don’t worry, it can be substituted with pellets and hay thrown in a blender.)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 250° F (120°C)
- Start by mincing the carrots in a food processor or blender and mashing the banana in a mixing bowl.
- Add the carrots to the banana and mix
- Add the Critical Care slowly (I start with about 3 tablespoons of Powder) you want the consistency to be similar to a cookie dough. You might not use all the powder just keep adding until you get the consistency you want.
- Once you have your mixture place it between two pieces of parchment paper and start to roll it with your rolling pin. Keep rolling until it’s about 1/8 of an inch thick.
-Using a cookie cutter or a knife cut your dough into pieces I usually make my pieces about 1”x2” with my bunny cookie cutter.
- After they are cut, place them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet (you don’t have to worry about spacing them out as they tend to shrink) keep rerolling and cutting until you’ve used all of your dough. I usually get about 18 pieces.
- Place them in the oven for 1 hour 30 min flipping them over every half hour.
When they’re done take them out and cool them on a cooling rack.
Store them in a jar for up to 2 weeks!
Beanie gets one every day with his pellets to give him a little extra boost!
If you try them tag me on Instagram @beanie.bun. I hope your bun enjoys them as much as mine does!
